Since 2012, Genu Berlo has been practicing in his own artist studio in Bucharest. Considered an outsider, his work is based on a philosophy of eclectic abstraction and material painting.
Genu Berlo is an American artist of Romanian heritage, living and working in Bucharest, and occasionally New York City. He was born in Bucharest 1975. His studies include fine arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC, architecture and mathematics at the University of Bucharest. For over a decade he worked as design architect for NYC architectural firms, including Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. His work has been the subject of solo shows and group exhibitions at galleries such as Palatul Brancovenesc Mogosoaia, Atelier030202, Galeriile Grumazescu, Galateca, Contempora and Orion, in Bucharest and other Romanian cities, and museums such as the National Museum of Maps in Bucharest or The Clock Museum Nicolae Simache, Ploiești.
